Two treated after early morning Santa Barbara store fire

Fire extiguishers used on electrical problem

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A fire reported inside the 99 Cents Only store Tuesday in Santa Barbara resulted in two injuries.

Fire crews and an AMR ambulance were called to the store in the 400 block of State Street after a produce unit had an electrical problem.  Store employees called 911 as they also used a chemical fire extinguisher to help control the issue.

It's unknown if an actual fire occurred but the store had smoke when firefighters arrived.  The doors on State Street were opened for ventilation.

Initially reports were that three employees were sick from the exposure.  Two were transported to Santa Barbara's Cottage Hospital for an evaluation.

The California Occupational department (CAL OSHA) was notified as part of the follow up.
