MONTECITO, Calif. - This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and the Montecito Fire Protection District is honoring its dispatchers for their hard work and dedication.
The communications division is staffed with three full time dispatchers who cover both Montecito and Carpinteria-Summerland fire districts.
The quick thinking dispatchers must obtain critical information in a matter of minutes.
"Anyone in the emergency field, whether it's police, fire, you are dealing with people on their worst days and it's a high stress environment," firefighter and paramedic Andrew Ruppe said. "You are going to help them in that environment, everything you are doing has a time clock on it."
The dispatch center is staffed 24 hours day, 365 days a year.
