MONTECITO, Calif. - If you heard sounds that resemble gunshots or see a lot of law enforcement converging at Montecito Union School Wednesday afternoon, don't be alarmed. They're taking part in active shooter training.
The joint drill includes the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, Montecito Fire Protection District, and the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District.
“Unfortunately as we know in Santa Barbara County, we’ve seen several of these types of events locally and just from our own personal experiences going through these types of events, we know where the breakdowns come and it’s important to stay working together on a consistent basis," said Lieutenant Mike Perkins, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
Training took place at the Montecito Union School campus located at 385 San Ysidro Road on August 16, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This type of training offers law enforcement and fire personnel an opportunity to work together on how to respond to an active shooter scenario on a school campus.
