SANTA BARBARA,Calif. - The Santa Barbara Latino non-profit La Casa De La Raza says it is ready to respond if there are needs in and around Mexico City following a powerful earthquake.
Dozens are reported to be dead and many buildings have collapsed.
La Casa Executive Director Raquel Lopez says the organization will do outreach to specific groups and if they can provide funds or other aid, they will find a secure direct connection.
An assessment will be done immediately.
Lopez says with modern day communications, organizations providing help can be in touch in real time and get frequent updates on the recovery plans.
La Casa has been around since 1971 with numerous Latino programs including community meetings, language help, dancing and fitness, from its building on the Santa Barbara Eastside.
