SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara Firefighters put out a small fire in a second story unit on the 400 block of West Ortega Street around 8:45 p.m.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire and it's uncertain whether anyone will be displaced because of it.

"We arrived on scene and found light smoke showing from the second floor. The initial engine company investigated and found a small fire up in an upstairs unit. They used a garden hose actually to extinguish it. Very small in nature. Fire was under control within a few minutes," said Battalion Chief Robert Mercado.

None of the residents were home at the time. A house cat was inside, but was taken out and is safe.
