CAMARILLO, Calif. - Black Friday has a history of battles and brawls over the best deals. That’s why law enforcement has an extra presence at shopping centers like the Camarillo Outlets in the city of Camarillo.
Around 200,000 people are expected to visit the shopping hub on Black Friday alone.
The Camarillo Police Department says they have assigned eight extra officers to the outlets, while other shopping centers will also have officers patrolling.
Six Citizen Patrol officers are also on duty this weekend, acting as eyes and ears for the deputies.
“It gives people the ease of mind that we are here to protect them and we are also making sure stuff doesn’t happen,” said Senior Deputy, Shawn Holzberger. “ We’re here to deter crime but also to help the people as well.”
Outlet General Manager, John Best says people come from all over the world to shop Black Friday deals.
“The Camarillo Police Department understands this is a busy time for them so with an increase of people they increase their patrol numbers,” said Best. ”This is specifically related to holiday shopping and we’re kind of the hub of that, but they are also patrolling all of Camarillo.”
The outlets have been open since 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
Holzberger says the Camarillo Police Department will be on duty at the outlets all weekend.
