The Rincon Classic is on for this weekend.
The surfing competition will take place this Saturday, January 18, and Sunday, January 19, at Rincon Point, a surf spot at the Ventura and Santa Barbara county line.
The event usually takes place between mid-January and late February, whenever the best waves are forecast.
This weekend was the first available week for the contest to be and event organizers say this weekends waves will be great for the competition.
"Just the weather and the conditions are optimal and the surf is supposed to be phenomenal on Sunday and you can't beat the weather. It's also a three-day weekend, there is just so many good reasons to do it," said event organizer Chris Keet.
More than 220 surfers will be participating in the Rincon Classic.
The competition consists of 12 divisions from the 11-and-under to the 55-plus "Legends Division." There is also a professional division.
Viewing of the surf competition is free and open to the public.
