SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -

More than 300 people came out to the Old Mission Santa Barbara steps to pray and dance for rain.

World Dance for Humanity, the mission priests and members of the community joined together for song, dance and prayer.

California is in a severe drought and the gathering was a chance to ask for some much needed rain.

"What a beautiful opportunity to gather the people, the whole community together to say this is a common need," said Fr. Larry Gosselin. "We need just to gather and pray and celebrate and recognize our need for rain and also an awareness for conservation of water and the importance of water in our community."

Although no rain drops fell during the ceremony, participants hope the rain will come soon.
