PISMO BEACH, Calif. - Rain coupled with wind made it a slick and slippery commute for people in Pismo Beach on Friday.
"There's lots of spots where the water is leaking out so you are hitting puddles on the freeway," says Joshua Silva.
Silva started his day at 3:30 a.m. He was making his way to work from Nipomo to Pismo Beach on the 101.
"I saw 3 highway patrol and a lot of cars going both ways, so a lot more cars than usual," says Silva.
The roadways in the area are taking the brunt of the storm. Heavy rain on and off caused flooding along some downtown streets in the Pismo Beach area.
"I woke up to some heavy rain, I ran out to my car, hopped in, and drove slow and careful," says Dawson Hansen, from Grover Beach.
The weather didn't stop some from hitting the waves at the beach.
Kevin Majors says surfing is part of his daily routine. "Do you usually go out when its raining like this? Yeah, sure why not," he says.
The waves by the Pismo Beach Pier reaching heights Majors says are perfect for surfing.
"There's a couple of rides on the pier and we are going to just do it me and my buddy here," he says.
With the ongoing rain and wind picking up commuters hitting the roads are advised to take it slow.
"Make sure you use your blinkers to let people know, in the rain people drive crazy," says Silva.
"Driving slow, don't rush it's not worth it," says Hansen.
