OCEANO, Calif. -

UPDATE: Emergency crews will resume their recovery efforts Wednesday at daylight  following a plane crash Tuesday afternoon, off the coast of Oceano.

The small aircraft went down just before 2:00 pm in the ocean off Pier Ave., south of the Pismo Beach Pier, roughly a half mile off the coast.

Coast Guard officials confirm the discovery of debris, human remains and a wallet. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Dive Team searched for hours using sonar to look for bodies; Public Information Officer Tony Cipolla confirmed there are no survivors.

Authorities contacted a number of airports but could not say what type of plane was involved, or if any agency reported a missing party.

A spokesperson with Cal Fire said debris from the ocean wreckage could be spotted within an oil slick.

Cal Fire, Five Cities Fire crews and the Coast Guard were among those who responded.

Employees with the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport say they did not receive a distress call before the crash.
