Port of Hueneme hosts security drill
Crews work to detonate ocean mines during exercise
A three-day exercise began on Tuesday at the Port of Hueneme.
About 100 agencies are participating in the exercise. Professional responders are practicing an emergency situation while commanding officers watch a live feed on post.
Last year, the drill involved capturing smuggling boats. This year, divers and sea lions are being used to locate ocean mines, including one discovered on a fishing boat off the coast of Leo Carillo State Beach. Other crews will detonate the devices.
How quickly they complete this process will go into part of their review.
