Santa Maria appoints new city manager

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The City of Santa Maria appointed a new city manager during a closed city council session on Tuesday.

Assistant city manager Jason Stillwell was voted unanimously to become the city's newest city manager, taking over for the retiring Rick Haydon.

Haydon, who has served as city manager for the past six years and has spent 21 years working in various roles with the city, will be stepping down on December 5.

Stillwell has been the acting assistant city manager for the past two years. He is a graduate of Cal Poly and holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from California State University, San Jose and a doctorate in Public Affairs from the University of Colorado.

He has previously served as the city manager of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Stillwell's new employment contract will be reviewed at an upcoming city council meeting.
