OXNARD, Calif. -

One of the largest Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations up and down the coast took place in Oxnard.

This is the 28th year the Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee of Ventura County has put on the event.

More than 2,500 people attended the march and celebration at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center to honor King.

Historian and author Dr. Ingrid Dineen-Wimberly was the keynote speaker for the event. "It's an opportunity to connect with your community.  You know we all get lost in our individual lives and to me this is a time of year we can come together, and recognize what we have done and what we can do together," said Dineen-Wimberly.

After the reception the attendees participated in a community lunch.
