SANTA MARIA, Calif. -

We're still in the middle of summer, but the fall election season is coming. The nomination period for dozens of city council and school board seats is now open.

Two incumbents in the Santa Maria Bonita School District have a chance to seek re-election. Will Smith and Fidenzio "Bruno" Brunello are the two.

Three seats are up for grabs in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District: Carol Karamitsos, Diana Perez and Jerry Walsh.

Anyone interested needs to apply by August 8th. If no incumbents seek re-election, that date will be pushed back to August 13th.

The Santa Barbara County Elections Department says, as of Wednesday, no one has filed candidate papers for the open seats in either school district.
