'Tis the season for Starbucks holiday cup controversies

Some people believe 2017 cup promoting gay agenda

Starbucks 2017 Holiday Cup controversy

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - 'Tis the season for Starbucks paper cup controversies.

A couple of years ago, critics complained red Starbucks holiday cups didn't portray Christmas enough.

This year the complaint isn't about the color, it about the hand-holding artwork. The cup looks like a coloring book with hands holding near the top. A Starbucks video used to roll out the cup appears to show women holding hands.

Laura Smith said, "A lot of people have declared that that's the lesbian couple from the cup and that Starbucks is promoting a gay agenda."

Smith likes the cup and said it's the season of love an acceptance.

But conservatives have used the hashtag #BoycottStarbucks and claim it is a gay agenda campaign.

Starbucks issued the following statement; "We will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores and around the world."

Starbucks employees said they have other cups in the back if a customer wishes to opt out of the holiday cup.
