More development, jobs coming to Santa Maria

More development coming to Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - More development is coming to Santa Maria. Renderings show what the more than 25,000 square foot two-story office buildings will look like.

Right now, there is an empty lot located along Airpark Drive but that will change.

"We hope to continue to build on that momentum," says Chuen Ng, Director of Community Development for Santa Maria. "We are always excited when new companies come to the city."

The developers of this project, NKT Commercial, are the same ones developing the Enos Ranch Project.

City leaders say it's helping to bring a boost to the economy.

"Anytime, we can expand the job base, bring households, jobs that pay well, we are always excited about that," says Ng.

This location sits just north of the Santa Maria Airport. A building right next to the empty lot will stay there.

The tenant inside of that building, Mind Body, will be moving to the new location, along with another tenant that is yet to be determined.

"This is an area for light industrial use, so the proposed buildings and use fit in with the overall character of the area," says Ng.

Mind Body, a tech company, will help bring more software and I.T related jobs.

"We need jobs, the sales tax, we need the disposable income these jobs will bring," he says.

Ng says the developers contacted the city earlier this year, hoping to get this project completed soon.

"They want to be up and running sometime at the end of this year." he says.

The planning commission also approved another project. It will be built near the Stowell Center Plaza in Santa Maria. The property owner hopes to attract medical offers to the area.

"We are talking new jobs and new businesses," says Ng.
