SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara's newest luxury hotel officially opens Thursday evening.
The Hotel Californian encompasses three buildings on four city blocks at the Lower State Street entrance from Stearns Wharf and offers some of the best views in town.
The Morroccan-designed property, designed by Los Angeles interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, has 121 rooms, a Turkish-style spa, rooftop pool with ocean views and two restaurants, Blackbird (with an artistic nod to Alfred Hitchcock), and its signature restaurant, Goat Tree.
"I still get the feeling that, wow, I can't believe we're really open!" said Warren Nocon, General Manager of Hotel Californian. "It's really, really exciting for me and I'm sure it's even more exciting for the City that's been waiting for it for over 20 years."
"We really expect to cater 50% of our business will likely be or is designed to be local business," said Carlos Lopes, Managing Director of Hotel Californian. "We want the local community to obviously accept us and we want to be accepted which is really important."
An estimated 200 to 300 people are expected to attend Thursday evening's Grand Opening ceremony, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
