SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A locally-organized event aims to help struggling business owners on Coast Village Road in the wake of the Thomas Fire and the Jan. 9 mudflow.
The event was started by Jeff Bochsler and his assistant Christian Menard. Both wanted to help bring people and money back to the area.
They posted the event on Facebook and watched as hundreds of people shared the event and RSVP'd to attend.
A Cash Mob, inspired by a Flash Mob, is a group of people who spend money at a specific place or business.
The hope is the revenue will help business owners get through tough times, especially when dealing with insurance companies.
The Coast Village Road Cash Mob will begin on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at The Montecito Bank & Trust and Sotheby's parking lot.
Bochsler said dozens of gift cards from businesses in the area will be raffled off for free!
The Cash Mob will then head to Coast Village Road to shop.
The event runs until 6 p.m.
