Ian was rescued by a neighbor named Augie Johnson, who told Ellen Degeneres he stayed behind to watch football the night before, while his wife and daughter evacuated to a hotel.
Ian was released from the hospital and is in the care of relatives.
His father and uncle are still recovering at Cottage Hospital.
Rodriguez said," The family has no words to express how grateful they are to everyone."
There are several gofundme sites and the family of slide victim John McManigal decided to give donations from their gofundme to the Benitez family as well.
Rodriguez said he took the call during the emergency.
Rodriguez said the family also wants to thank the community ahead of time for giving them the privacy they need during the upcoming service.
