OXNARD, Calif. -

A large fire sent a plume of thick black smoke into the sky as giant flames shot out of a two-story medical building in Oxnard.

Dozens of firefighters from the Oxnard Fire Department responded to the corner of Gonzales Road and Lantana Street after the fire broke out around 10:54 a.m. on Sunday.

Battalion Chief Kevin Schroepfer said the flames caused part of the building to collapse.  As of noon, Schroepfer said the fire is mostly under control, but firefighters are still putting out hot spots.

No one was in the building when the fire broke out. Fire investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
