LOMPOC, Calif. - Jenna Harrison thought living out in Cebada Canyon near Lompoc would be a nice escape.
"I love the country and I figured what better way to enjoy the canyon and the mountains and everything else so we decided to come out here as opposed to being in town. Also too, we figured the crime rate would be lower out here," Harrison said.
That all changed Tuesday morning when she came out to check the mail and discovered someone broke into all of the mailboxes. Every piece of mail - gone.
Now Harrison is worried crooks could have their personal information.
"You know people's personal information, credit cards, debit cards - people lose them and they mess up all the time and you have to have new ones sent.. I mean there could've been anything in any of these boxes," she said.
She's considering getting a P.O. Box to make her feel more secure.
"A P.O. Box will be much safer, they have cameras in the post office and if that's how I'm gonna have to protect myself and my family against theft then that's what I'm gonna do. I'm not gonna continue to use a public box that can get broken into time and time again."
It's hard to tell who may have been behind these crimes as mail theft has been a problem in this area for several years.
"It's really upsetting to know that people would go to those lengths to steal someone else's stuff.. get a job!" said Harrison.
Harrison filed a report with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office recommends people secure their mail by using a locked mailbox and making sure to not leave mail in the mailbox overnight.
