ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Parents picking up their children at Harloe Elementary in Arroyo Grande could not believe the news that a bus driver had been arrested on suspicion of molesting a nine year old girl.
It is not known what school the girl attends but investigators say the molestation happened on a Lucia Mar District School Bus.
"It makes my heart just sink to think that - I've got a nine year old girl and I'm thankful that she doesn't ride the bus... It's just scary," says A.G. mom Jennifer Ramsey.
"I mean there's background checks and all of those things but you never really know who's around them and what's in the minds of authority figures," says A.G. dad Jason Rhoades.
Deputies arrested 48 year old David Lamb at his home on the 1900 block of of Lyn Road in Arroyo Grande, right around the corner from the Five Cities Vineyard Church.
"You know when you hear about these things and it's in such close proximity, it's a bit shocking," says Pastor Jose Rivera.
Rivera says he hopes the girl is able to heal, telling us: "Our heart goes out to her, we weep with her, our hearts go out to her parents, her siblings, her friends and hopefully she'll be able to get the help that she needs."
Some parents are now raising questions as to what more can be done to prevent this from happening again.
They say this serves as a reminder as to why it's important to stay connected with your kids.
"It's like what's the next step are they gonna require two bus drivers per bus??," says Ramsey.
"Don't try to hide what could happen - or what may happen in [your child's] life; teach them to look for different signs and to always have open communication with your kids," Rhoades says.
