Search & Rescue Training

Written by Tracy Lehr

Firefighters took part in an all day drill Thursday.

The Ventura County Fire Protection District invited crews from 11 agencies in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to take part.

They converged on the old Wagon Wheel Motel complex in Oxnard.

They prepared for an urban search and rescue mobilization.

The new public information officer for the Ventura County Fire Department, Engineer Steve Swindle, says they hope to improve readiness and cooperation between agencies.

City officials say the Wagon Wheel area will eventually be torn down.

In the meantime it is the perfect training spot for first responders.
