School Bond Proposal

Written by KEY News Staff

The Oxnard School District is considering a plan to put a bond measure on the ballot.

The money would be earmarked for education.

The district expects to grow by three thousand students in the next seven years.

Bond money, re-paid with property taxes, could be used to buy technology and reduce cafeteria overcrowding.

Supporters are optimistic.

They say a general obligation bonds only need 55 percent of the vote to pass.

But critics say now is not the time to ask struggling residents to approve a bond measure.

The school board has asked staff to write up the specific wording of a bond before trustees vote.

The district has until July to qualify for the November ballot.
