Quarry Talks Continued

Written by KEYT Reporter

The Ventura County Planning Commission won't be shutting down the Ojai Quarry this year.

The controversial rock quarry off highway 33 will stay open at least until another planning commission meeting in late February.

Supporters of the Mosler Rock-Ojai Quarry filled a Planning Commission meeting at the Ventura County Government Center today wearing, " Save the Quarry," hats and t-shirts.

They urged commissioners to save the quarry and related jobs.

But members of the "Ojai Stop The Trucks Coalition," would like to see its permit pulled.

They are concerned about damage to the Matilija Creek, truck traffic and mining outside of bounds.

One of the most contested issues if the fee that must be set aside to insure the future clean up of the mine.

The commission voted to continue the meeting February 23rd on the condition that Mosler makes good on his debt.

Mosler said he could not write a check.

But his attorney promised that the first installment of 25 thousand dollars would be paid to the County by next Friday.

Another 48 thousand must be paid of before planners consider a permit proposed by his Mosler and his legal and expert team.
