Oxnard Standoff

Oxnard - An Oxnard man in now in custody after a two and half hour standoff Saturday afternoon.

Just after 3 o'clock, Oxnard police say 45-year-old Ronald Lopez barricaded himself inside a room at the Comfort Inn at 1001 East Channel Islands Blvd. Lopez was believed to be armed with a handgun and threatening to use it. Initial reports indicated Lopez had fired a shot in the direction of police.

Oxnard SWAT and the Oxnard Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene, along with the Ventura Police Dept. and the Ventura County Sheriff's Dept.

After two and half hours of verbal communication with the suspect and cooperation with family members, Lopez surrendered peacefully. No one was injured during this incident.

Officers conducted a search of the room and surrounding area after the suspect was in custody and did not find a gun. At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that there was no weapon and there were no shots fired.
