Oxnard Crime Rate Drop

Written by Tracy Lehr

Oxnard Police are proud of their latest crime statistics.

They were released on the one year anniversary of Oxnard's new Police Chief Jeri Williams.

They show a 12.4 percent drop in overall crime in 2011.

Violent crimes dropped more than ten percent.

Murders stayed the same.

Police say there were eight murders in the city of about 200 thousand residents.

There was room for some improvement.

The number of arsons and rapes rose slightly.

Police say the statistics help them track trends.

Then they can put their focus on prevention.
