Local Company Wins Sand Removal Contract

For years sand has been building up in front of homes and stairways leading to the beach in the Pierpont area of Ventura.

A community sued the city and a settlement just reached calls for the city to pick up the sand clearing tab.

Ventura opened the bidding and more than a dozen companies applied.

This week the Ventura City Council chose the second lowest bid and hired Shaw Contracting Inc. of Carpinteria.

Shaw's bid was just over half a million dollars.

The City expected to pay much more.

The amount of sand that will be hauled away has been compared to the size of two football fields.

The work is scheduled to begin March 1st.
