Crime Rates Released

Tis the season for new crime statistics and they are not all good.

Crime is up in Ventura where there are about 35 crimes for very 1000 residents.

Violent crimes spiked 24 percent.

Police say gang violence rose by about 60 percent since 2010.

But Ventura's murder rate is down.

There was one murder in 2011 compared to 3 in 2010.

Police say they have been forced to make cuts after voters repeatedly chose not to support public safety tax measures.

There is a bright spot, police say their record of solving crimes is higher than the national average.
