Colleges Under Pressure

Written by Tracy Lehr

Ventura County Community Colleges are under pressure to perform.

Campuses in Ventura, Oxnard and Moorpark are trying to meet accreditation standards.

Accreditation is needed for student credits to transfer and for students to be eligible for Federal financial aid.

Professors say the community college district needs to improve its communication between trustees and campuses.

A volunteer at Ventura College says she is concerned about the students trying to learn a trade.

District officials could not be reached to comment.

Last year the district got a warning for failing to measure student performance.

A member of the accrediting commission is expected to attend a board meeting next month.
