Police Investigating Possible Homicide

San Luis Obispo - Police are investigating a possible homicide that left one man dead Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 4:50 p.m. at the base of the Madonna Mountain near Lincoln and Mountain View Streets.

San Luis Obispo Police officials say Charles Russell Lavenson, 63, of San Luis Obispo, was found with several injuries to the face and head.

The cause of death has not been determined but is being considered a possible homicide.

Police are currently trying to identify a plastic hotel/motel room key that was found in one of Lavenson’s pockets.

Plans for a memorial service for Lavenson are pending at the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo.
