Mountain Lion Sighting Near Park

Pismo Beach - Law enforcement officials are warning park visitors of a recent mountain lion sighting.

The lion was sighted near the east side of Chumash Park on south Pismo Beach.

Law enforcement officials are offering the following guidelines for encounters with mountain lions:

- Do not hike, bike or jog alone.
- Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active at dawn, dusk and at night.
- Keep a close watch on small children.
- No not approach a mountain lion.
- If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run. Instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms, throwing rocks or other objects.
- If attacked, fight back.
- If a mountain lion attacks a person, call 911.
