Ex-CHP Officer Denied Parole in 1986 Murder

San Luis Obispo (AP) - A former California Highway Patrol officer convicted of murdering a woman motorist while on duty 25 years ago has been denied parole.

San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said in Wednesday's hearing that Craig Peyer continues to pose a danger.

Peyer is serving 25 years to life at the state prison at San Luis Obispo. He's been denied parole three times and won't have parole another hearing for 15 years.

Twenty-year-old San Diego State student Cara Knott was killed two days after Christmas in 1986. Peyer, a 13-year CHP veteran, pulled her over in San Diego as she drove home to El Cajon after visiting her boyfriend.

Prosecutors say he strangled her with a rope and threw her from a bridge. He was found guilty in 1988.
