City Of San Luis Obispo Announces New Police Chief

San Luis Obispo - The San Luis Obispo Police Department has a new police chief.

City of San Luis Obispo officials say Stephen Gesell has been named the new police chief. Gesell replaces Deborah Linden, who retired Dec. 21, 2011.

Gesell is a 22-year law enforcement veteran who recently served as the interim police chief for the Atascadero Police Department in 2011 and as a commander in 2009. Prior to coming to the Central Coast, he served as a commander with the Scottsdale Police Department in Arizona for 20 years.

Gesell is expected to start his position January 17.
