Weekend DUI Checkpoints

Written by Amanda Howard

Santa Barbara Police Officers will set up several DUI checkpoints Friday night throughout the city.

Officers will be on the look-out for drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, not licensed and people not wearing their seat belts.

Violators will be issued a ticket and those under the influence will be arrested.

Friday night's checkpoints go up at 6:00 until 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning at a number of undisclosed locations.

Then again Super Bowl Sunday from 3:00 in the afternoon until 11:00 that night.

Police urge everyone to drink responsibly, and have a designated driver if you do intend to drink.

Officials say they'd rather arrest a driver than respond to a DUI related accident or fatality.

Funds for the checkpoints come from a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
