UPDATE: Water Rescue Near Gaviota

Written by KEYT Anchor

Gaviota - Santa Barbara County Fire Search and Rescue crews pulled two kayakers from the ocean near Hollister Ranch just north of Gaviota State Beach. KEY News brought you a live report on the rescue last night, and today we are learning the kayakers are recovering and will be fine.

The rescue began around around 6:25 pm Friday when the County Fire Helicopter dropped in two rescue swimmers who helped the two men into the chopper. The helicopter then flew the men to shore where they were taken by ambulance to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.

As of Saturday afternoon, the two kayakers continued to be treated for hypothermia and are expected to be fine. No names have been released, but we're told the men are in their early 20's.

The kayakers say strong sundowner winds were blowing them out to sea and they ditched their kayaks and tried to swim to shore.

A witness on the beach saw the men were in trouble and called 911.
