Images: Viola Davis Shines With Outstanding Performer of The Year Award

Santa Barbara- Once again, the spotlight was on the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. It kicked off it's second night, with a tribute. Oscar nominated actress, Viola Davis was presented with the "Outstanding Performer of the year award," for her role Tate Taylor's film "The Help"

Davis plays a grieving African American maid who eventually discovers her inner courage to change thought in the prejudiced and segregated 1960's Mississippi. Davis arrived with co-star Octavia Spencer, who just recently won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. The help has landed four Oscar nominations. Viola Davis is up for Best Actress, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain got Best Supporting Actress nods, and the film is nominated for Best Picture.

In 2009, SBIFF honored Davis with the Virtuosos Award for her Oscar nominated portrayal of a torn mother in John Patrick Shanley's "Doubt."

The excitement continues tomorrow night with Christopher Plummer, who will receive this years Modern Master Award -- the festivals highest honor. On Monday-- Martin Scorsese will be honored with the American Riviera Award.
