Tunnel Road Parking Issues

Written by KEY News Staff

Santa Barbara County - Parking at the end of Tunnel Road in Mission Canyon has been an issue for a long time. But now, some local residents feel law enforcement officers are giving that area too much attention.

The California Highway Patrol is assigned to that section of roadway and are having to respond to concerns about excessive enforcement over what some believe are very minor infractions.

Mission Canyon resident Rosanne Crawford is upset after her car was towed in late January at a cost of close to $400. Crawford believes, her husband, who parked the car, did nothing wrong.

She says, he was as far over as he could go on the side of the road and was barely over the white line that marks the edge of the roadway.

"This is over enforcement in my opinion and you know just its, harassment actually, in my opinion," said Crawford.

However, a CHP officer thought differently.

"Each situation is going to be different but what we're looking for are those vehicles that are going to become a hazard to anyone else traveling on that roadway," said CHP Officer Jeremy Wayland,
