Trash Dump Or Shooting Range?

Written by KEYT Producer

A local shooting range becomes a dumping ground, and some residents are fired up. Thousands of pounds of trash and garbage has been removed from the Los Padres National Forest after local volunteers step in.

Broken glass, expended shells and propane tanks littered in our own back yard, over the years everything from cars to washing machines have been dumped at this gun range which sits just off Highway 154.

But today gun lovers, volunteers and even our local fire department were armed with trash bags, rakes and shovels as a massive cleanup effort was organized to help keep our local forest clean.

Not only is the garbage an eye sore but a lot of the stuff left behind is considered a fire hazard, which makes a cleanup effort like this one, all the more important.
