The top five types of vehicles reported by the Santa Barbara Police Department are:
1) Honda Accord
2) Toyota Camry
3) Honda Civic
4) Ford Explorer
5) Nissan Sentra

With that information in mind, the Police, CHP and AAA held an auto theft prevention program in the lower parking lot of Macy's on Thursday.

The program included free etching of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the vehicle's window.

The etching is faint and won't interfere with the window's integrity.

Authorities say that auto theft is the number one crime in America.

Having the VIN engraved on each window thwarts professional auto thieves from doing VIN switches.
