Local Teen Who Sailed The World Arrested

A local teen who gained world-wide fame for his solo trip around the world is in trouble with the law.

Ventura County authorities arrested Zach Sunderland early Thursday morning in his hometown of Thousand Oaks, on the 2200 block of Calle Riscoso.

A statement from the Sheriff's Department says the 18-year-old was caught drinking alcohol with other teens.

When a deputy told him to stop, he allegedly charged at the deputy and had to be physically subdued.

Sunderland disputes the allegations.

He first made headlines back in July 2009 when he became the youngest person to sail solo around the world.

Sunderland is due in a Ventura County Superior Court on September 14th.
