Students Describe Aftermath of Isla Vista Stabbing

Written by KEY News Staff

Isla Vista - Residents describe it as a very intense scene. A fight that took place Saturday night in Isla Vista that spread over three blocks and sent at least three people to the hospital.

The fight broke out in the street outside of a house party on Del Playa, just after midnight. Neighbors say it took place between a group of 10-15 people. One good samaritan tried to break it up, but was slashed with a blade across the hand. He was taken to the hospital and stitched up.

The fight apparently moved to the next street over which is Sabado Tarde, where one person suffered a significant stab wound to the lower abdomen. Residents say, another person had his head stomped on the pavement and was out cold for at least twenty minutes.

Sheriff's deputies, fire crews and paramedics responded and immediately shut down both blocks.

According to Isla Vista resident Dave Hoang, "The whole street here DP was filled with fire trucks and ambulances lined up. No one could move, no cars were allowed to go."

The victim with the most serious stab wound was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage hospital with critical injuries. There has been no other update about his condition.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department did not return our calls on Monday regarding the incident. However, as of Sunday morning they were still looking for suspects.
