Local Firefighters To Help With State Fires

KEYT Producer

Santa Barbara - Help is on the way. More than 20 firefighters from the cities of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Montecito, Lompoc, and Vandenberg left this morning to assist in the "Crown Fire" burning north of Los Angeles.

About 1,000 homes remain evacuated from homes in the Antelope Valley northeast of Los Angeles Friday morning as crews battle a wildfire that's burned at least three buildings.

Los Angeles County fire Inspector Matt Levesque says another 1,000 homes in Rancho Vista that were evacuated Thursday are now considered safe after the fire burned nearly to their doors but was stopped at an aqueduct.

Homes in Leona Valley and Anaverde remain evacuated. Aircraft and about 500 firefighters are attacking a river of flame running through grassy hills. Winds pushed the flames Thursday and Levesque says winds gusting to 20 mph are expected again Friday afternoon.

TV reports showed at least one home burning Thursday but Levesque says he can only confirm two outbuildings and a hay storage center burned.
