Small Oil Spill Reported at Santa Maria Facility

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Shortly before 11:00 on Monday night the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a reported crude oil spill at the Bell Injection Facility, located at 6605 Palmer Road in Santa Maria.

When the Fire Department arrived on scene and assessed the situation, firefighters estimated the spill at 4 barrels or about 168 gallons of crude oil.

According to plant personnel, the cause of the spill was due to an injection pump failure.

We're told the spill was inside a secondary containment.

A vacuum truck was called to the scene and clean up is almost complete.

No other hazards were noted or reported and there was no threat to the environment.
