Santa Maria Police Officer Injured in Crash

A Santa Maria police officer is recovering from injuries after being side swiped by an alleged drunk driver.

The incident happened Tuesday night just after 10:00 p.m. on Morrison and Pine streets.

Santa Maria Police say the officer was transporting an arrestee to the police station when a driver blew past a stop sign and slammed into the officer's vehicle.

The officer sustained minor head injuries and was released from Marian Medical Center.

Authorities were able to apprehend 53 year old Robert Kelly, Jr., of Santa Maria. He faces felony DUI charges.
