Safe and Sane Fireworks On Sale With Restrictions

Written by KEYT Reporter

Fillmore - Safe and sane fireworks went on sale at noon.

People waited anxiously for stands to open in Fillmore.

Although people come from all over to buy them, Fillmore is the only place in Ventura County where you are allowed to be use them.

It's a major fundraiser for non profits such as the Santa Clara Valley Railroad Historical Society.

Volunteers for the group hope to raise $40,000 in just seven days.

With each purchase they hand out a bilingual postcard with the rules.

In Santa Barbara County the same rules apply in Santa Maria and Guadalupe where they have non profit stands selling safe and sane fireworks too.

In San Luis Obispo County safe and sane are only allowed in Arroyo Grande, Oceano, Grover Beach, San Miguel and Templeton.

Safe and sane fireworks display the California Fire Marshals logo.

Fireworks are illegal in unincorporated areas of the tri-counties and cities that don't sell them.

The citation fine for the sale, discharge or possession of non-approved fireworks is $1000.
