SBCAG reviews Highway 154 truck safety improvements

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments is asking for legislative help in an effort to ban certain trucks from using Highway 154.

Last August a fully loaded gravel truck lost control while traveling down the San Marcos Pass, hitting a home and killing three.

Local leaders have been told legislative action is moving slowly, but efforts to step up enforcement and education are in high gear.

The Highway Patrol says it has multiple units focusing on the pass regularly for all vehicle issues, ranging from speed to truck violations.

Supervisor Doreen Farr says she has seen an improvement on the mountain highway since the accident, but wants all agencies to work on more safety solutions.
