Rally To Save McGrath State Beach

Written by KEYT Reporter

Ventura - Assemblymember Das Willams invited state and local officials to a "Save McGrath State Beach Rally."

They told supporters they have to act fast.

The park donated by the McGrath family is known for camping, bird watching and surfing on the coast between the Ventura and Channel Islands Harbors.

State budget cuts put McGrath State Beach park on the Sept. 6 closure list, which is the same day the park could win $100,000 in an online contest called "America Is Your Park."

The contest sponsored by Coca Cola's Live Positively Initiative will give money to the top three vote-getters.

The park needs half a million dollars in maintenance funds to repair a faulty sewer line.

Supporters are also applying for a federal conservation grant that could be matched by the park service.

If you want to vote to save the park log onto www.livepositively.com or join www.facebook.com/savemcgrathstatebeach

You can also make a direct donation by called Supervisor John Zaragoza's office at 805-654-2613.
