Santa Barbara - Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) is opening to the public Friday.

The retailer gears towards the hiker and outdoorsmen.

The new store on Lower Anacapa Street downtown is touted to being an economic boost to the Santa Barbara area.

They are not just bringing jobs to the city. Through their community resource center their mission is to educate, protect the environment and give back.

The more than 2,400 square foot store will be offering a variety of clinics and classes on topics such as backpacking, kayaking, cycling and bike maintenance.
