Quaid Extradiction Request Denied

Santa Barbara - The United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) has denied the Santa Barbara County Attorney's request to seek the extradition of Randy and Evi Quaid from Canada.

According to county attorney officials, in September 2010, the Quaids were arrested on charges of felony vandalism. The Quaids posted bail and were released before their arraignment in Santa Barbara Superior Court. The Quaids failed to appear in court on a number of occasions.

In November 2010, the Quaids were located in Canada. Based on their failure to appear in court, their bail bonds were forfeited and warrants were issued for their arrest.

The USDOJ stated that extradition is reserved for more serious offenses than with what the Quaids have been charged with. They also noted that it is an intense and lengthy process in seeking extradition from Canada.

The bench warrants issued in November 2010 for the Quaids arrest remain out. Should the Quaids return to the U.S., they will be arrested.
